Pandemic People Problems

Last night, our community of senior accounting and finance professionals gathered for the final GENCFO South of the year. The meetup was filled with thinking, connecting and sharing at the BFI Stephen Street in Fitzrovia, London.

We were excited to hear from Tim Schöler, CFO of Mercedes Benz Retail Group, our special speaker for the night – and he did not disappoint!

He and Chris Argent, Founder of GENCFO, discussed ‘Pandemic People Problems: From The Great Resignation To The Great Return’.

The discussion

The night began with a ‘fireside chat’ style discussion, where Chris asked Tim questions on the topic.

The audience were very active, joining in on the topic, asking Tim and one another provocative questions and voting on big ideas.

Tim covered Mercedes-Benz Retail group’s experience when pandemic hit. “It was all new, everyone panicked”.

“We scrambled for laptops at the beginning.”

After discussing the impact of Covid-19, he then described the return to work: “People came back because they like the experience.”

The audience joined in as the conversation moved onto the difficult elements of hybrid and fully remote work, such as jealousy, building relationships and diversity of requirements when your team is working remotely.

“Everyone has different needs but everyone has different things to offer.”

Tim and the crowd dove deep into the discussion on trusting your team to perform remotely, and  how to up skill and onboard new starters in a remote environment.

Being a leader was also raised, from psychological safety, dealing with team responsibilities when something goes wrong and moving towards a solution.

The networking

The next part of the night then began, with networking over canapes. The conversations continued on pandemic people problems and how each of our attendees experienced them within their own careers and organisations.

You may have already seen it on our social media, but the GENCFO picture frame travelled all the way back from Leeds with us, and our community had a lot of fun taking pictures with it!

We also have pictures of the talk. If you want to see all the images from the night, join the GENCFO South group on our community platform.

You can also connect with other attendees and keep the conversation going! Discover it here.

The next time…

Did you miss out on all of this? That’s a shame… but an opportunity to join us is coming up in February.

Check out the details and register your interest by clicking below. We look forward to seeing you all at another GENCFO South in 2023!
